The Gatekeeper

 Photo Ted Karch

The Gatekeeper
The path winds its way up hill
Over rock and water
Over land and into the clouds
The path winds its way toward a point
Toward a moment of solitude.
But there stands on the path one who would keep
You from coming
One who would slow you down.
He is the gatekeeper
He is the guardian
He is the one you must answer to
On your journey.
Listen as he asks you the question
Listen to his words.
Do you have the right to pass this way?
Do you have the key?
The gatekeeper passes no judgment
Other than seeking truth from
Those who come.
They climb to this point for discovery
And he wants to know what it is they have found.
