A message to the Left (and to the Right)

An Open Letter to my Friends on the Left.

It is time to quit gloating.

Yes, you won.  Yes, you carried the day in an election time that should have seen a landslide for the other side – if you read the tea leaves of politics. Yes, your points of view prevailed with a slim majority of Americans – and I mean slim.  But, it is time to work for America now. Not for the Democratic Party, but for America

And you on the Right…same message.

We have big problems facing us.  Economic problems that must be solved.  These are not problems about abortion or prayer in school or legalizing pot (although that might help calm the arguments of both sides) but rather it is about putting fellow Americans back to work, raising the energy level of the economy (while holding down inflation) it is about reducing the deficit and most importantly, reducing the National Debt.

These will not be short-term issues. They will be take long-term solutions. They will take sacrifice on all our parts. WE ARE ALL GOING TO HAVE TO PAY HIGHER TAXES…BECAUSE WE ALL GOT OURSELVES IN THIS MESS.  I know that is a message nobody want to hear and even fewer want to tell you…

But it is the truth.

Raise revenues. Cut spending. Both.

So, you see, it is going to be unpleasant. But the long-term rewards will pay great dividends for all Americans. And that means those of you on the Left and on the Right. Rich, middle class and poor. We are all going to have to shoulder some of the load.

So quit gloating and quit grossing.  Drop the boxing gloves and pick up the work gloves.  It is time to get started building a stronger America together.

And as a last thought, remember; compromise is not a dirty word.
