Something stinks at DISD

The DISD new superintendent has raised a furor in Big D because he has brought in a communications director with an annual salary of $180,000. That’s more than the press secretary at the White House. More than the Dallas Police Chief. And a hell of a lot more than classroom teachers make.

It is a case of excess in the executive halls.  We see it in business all over the place. Verizon laying off 17,000 plus workers while the CEO is paid 22 million dollars. On and on it goes. But with a public servant’s job?  A job paid for by the tax payers?  I think not.

Where is the board?  Where is our representation in all of this? Who is taking up the cause of tax payers?

Texas is in a short fall for teachers. We need 10,000 this year alone.  And Dallas it self, is in a cash short fall closing schools and making classroom crowded giving teachers even more headaches to handle. Then along comes a new superintendent who preaches classroom performance and administrative austerity and he gives us a communications director who makes over $100,000 more than her last job. Really? And she doesn’t even have a masters degree… something DISD wants all its teachers to have or at least to strive for.

Sorry if I am not walking the party line on this guy. This whole affair stinks.
